I used to have an Oster professional quality electric clipper set. I'm looking for its replacement & have come across the Oster vs Andis quandry. Any suggestions out there as to which brand is the best?

Hi Sandra....
I think we've all had the same dilemma.... I have an older Oster 2 speed clipper that I bought nearly 10 years ago and they are still going great guns. I've greased them once or twice in that time, but have had no problems with them really, other than dogs have knocked them off the table and the plastic housing cracked. I have yet to have to change the brushes. They've seen a lot of use as we've had at least three Bouviers almost all those years, and usually at least twice that many. Several years ago I bought a new Oster 2 speed Turbo so I'd have an extra. When I'm onna tear clipping bodies, I like to have two handsets so that I can grab the cool one when one gets too warm. IT also comes in handy when I'm using a couple different blades since I don't have to keep swapping them.. I just grab the other handset. I've had no problems with the Turbo either. I know folks who have Andis clippers and like those too. I think they're a little lighter in weight which may be a factor for some folks. I've used Laube cordless clippers too and really like those, but they are heavier, and spendier. All of the above use blades that are interchangable. I also have a little cordless, rechargable clipper that I got in a kit from PetEdge.. It's called a "Master Groomer" I believe and for $40 it's terrific. I use it mostly to get a really clean edge on ears and to clean out Bouv feet. Mike's also gotten a few haircuts with it. :> There... now you're even more confused, eh? Cheers, Sue |

More curious about the two brands. My old Osters we got from a guy who used to show Old English Sheepdogs. My son really loves them now.
This is a timely post as I'm going into Ottawa today to get one or the other. Thanks so much Sue.

I realize quite some time has gone by, busy with life. I bought a pair of Oster A5's, same as the old pair. They do a really good job as long as Tara doesn't wiggle and I don't shake. There seems to be a knack to getting just the right angle to get them to clip effectively. Somehow, I usually can't find it. Any suggestions?

So, if you are still getting e-mail notifacations of your last post, in the last 3 years you should have clipping down to a science now.
